Irene Agbaje

Fiber artist Irene Agbaje is drawn to the limitations of textile techniques like weaving – the strict, almost rigid nature of the medium. In recent years, she has been weaving with metal and materials more suited for public spaces. She never pretends the loom is a camera; her art never claims to depict reality, yet it still draws from it. Shadows, light, movement, intervals, change – still images of the surroundings weave their way into her works.

Från knut till struktur

For the second year in a row, Irene Agbaje presents works in her unique studio on Långholmen. A silk rug with thousands of Senneh knots takes shape alongside new pieces made from silver foil beads. Additionally, finished works are on display, with a primary focus on bead weavings and hand embroidery, as well as older pieces woven with Ikat technique.
