Shabnam Faraee

Shabnam Faraee works with pattern, imagery, and craft, with storytelling at the center of her practice. Her work often has a political foundation and is inspired by fables & stories. Through patterns and ornaments, she explores how forms move across time and space, and how human migration leaves traces in materials and form. A recurring aspect of her work is the merging of different cultural visual languages, where traditional forms from Iran encounter and are reshaped within a Swedish context.

Qalamkari: nya landskap

In the exhibition "Qalamkari: New landscape" Shabnam Faraee presents a selection of block-printed textiles in which the Iranian craft tradition of qalamkari meets motifs drawn from Swedish celebrations and the Swedish landscape. The patterns are hand-printed using hand-carved wooden blocks. The exhibition brings together works that have previously been exhibited and are represented in museum collections, alongside sketches and ideas for new works that have yet to be printed. Through these works, a dialogue emerges between craft traditions, places, and cultural experiences.
