Curated by Marianne Funck

Marianne Funck is a textile artist and curator based in Stockholm. Her practice often explores the intersection between growing up in Tornedalen and her life in the capital. Her work unites traditional weaving techniques with a strong sense of color, and the textiles can be said to carry traces of stillness, memory, and movement—like landscapes that continue to live in the hand.

Det textila arvet från Tornedalen

Six artists and craftspeople with ties to Tornedalen come together in a joint exhibition. Through various materials, expressions, and stories, they explore their roots, memories, and relationship to Tornedalen—and how a place can continue to live within us, even far from it.

Resa i Ranarike

Ranan belongs to the people who have lived and continue to live in the European Arctic, regardless of ethnicity. The Sami consider Ranan their own and so do the Swedish and Finnish Tornedalians, and the Kvens and Lantalaiset. In connection with the work on the book “Journey in Ranarike – A Cultural-Historical Tour of the Arctic,” Monica Luikisaar Lund registered Ranan with ISOF (The Institute for Language and Folklore), and since March 2025, Ranan has been included in Sweden’s national inventory of intangible cultural heritage. Welcome to listen to Monika and the tour of Ranarike.

Samtal om Tornedalen

How does a place shape a person's creativity? What do we carry with us from landscapes, language, traditions, and memories – and how does it show up in art?
You'll meet the participants. Led by the exhibition's curator, we talk about Tornedalen as a source of inspiration and about how cultural heritage, identity, and personal experiences become part of artistic expression. The conversation touches on tradition and the contemporary, the stories materials tell, and the role of crafts today. The audience gets a unique chance to get closer to the people and the works behind the exibition.
