International craft conference in Stockholm was fully booked

On 4 October 2023, over 250 people attended Curating Craft, an international one-day conference focusing on contemporary crafts. Curating Craft kicked off the five-year anniversary of Stockholm Craft Week, and among the participants were representatives from the Nordic countries and the USA.

On 4 October 2023 the international one-day conference Curating Craft, brought together more than 250 people interested in the field of curating contemporary crafts. The conference opened Stockholm Craft Week 2023 and was organized by The Swedish Crafts Centre (Konsthantverkscentrum) in collaboration with NNCA – Nordic Network of Crafts Associations. Curating Craft was held at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern, in Stockholm, and the panelists included renowned representatives from the Nordic countries and the USA. In the evening the conference ended and there was a grand opening for Stockholm Craft Week, celebrating five years with opening speach by the Swedish Minister of Culture, parisa Liljestrand.

Curating Craft was organized by the Swedish Crafts Centre (Konsthantverkscentrum) and NNCA – Nordic Network of Crafts Associations, with support from the Nordic Culture Fund and IASPIS – International Programme for Visual and Applied Arts

  • Damon Crain (US) • Gallerist and curator
    Damon Crain runs Culture Object in New York, a gallery with focus on objects that integrate conceptuality with functionality. As an art and design historian, he specialises in glass art and collaborates with several Swedish glass artists.

  • Ragna Fróðadóttir (IS) • Artist and curator
    Ragna Fróðadóttir is an artist and curator based in New York. She runs her own studio and is also the director of Edelkoort Inc and New York Textile Month. She was previously head of the textile department at the Reykjavik School of Visual Arts.

  • Daniela Ramos Arias (NO) • Curator
    Daniela Ramos Arias is a curator and co-founder of Kiosken, an interdisciplinary platform for craft, art and design in Bergen. She is also one of the founders of the online publication Toolbox.

  • Bettina Køppe (DK) • Gallerist and curator
    Bettina Køppe has extensive experience in curating crafts and runs Køppe Contemporary Objects gallery on Bornholm, Denmark. She is interested in how traditional craft techniques can be used to create contemporary expressions and relevance.

  • Marcia Harvey Isaksson (SE) •  Gallerist and curator
    Marcia Harvey Isaksson is a textile artist and curator, as well as the founder of the Fiberspace gallery in Stockholm. In her newly established platform Southnord  she focuses on creating space for Afro-Nordic artists.

  • Evelina Hedin (SE) • Project manager and curator
    Evelina Hedin is an international coordinator at the Swedish Crafts Centre in Stockholm and was previously director of Gustavsbergs Konsthall. She is also a textile artist and curator within the field of craft.
